Syndicated loans are used by legal entities and public institutions for financing major projects. It differs from a regular loan in the fact that it is provided by a number of banks since it involves large amounts of money; however, only one bank will act as the creditor (lead arranger) which agrees the financing terms and repayment security with the borrower.

In cooperation with the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR), several ministries and counties, Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank approves loans for various programmes, e.g. for the financing of public infrastructure and environmental protection projects, energy efficiency and renewable energy resources.
